Health and Safety Awareness

A wet kitchen floor. A trailing oxygen line. A bath run too hot, a frayed kettle lead. Most harm in care starts small, and the person best placed to catch it is the worker in the room. This course shows you what the law expects of your employer and of you, how to spot the everyday hazards of a care visit, how risk assessment works and where your part in it begins, and why reporting an accident or a near miss is one of the most useful things you can do on shift. Built for care and support workers in England and mapped to Care Certificate Standard 13, it draws on real cases where reporting, or the silence that replaced it, decided what happened next.

Course content

5 modules

The law that protects you at work: what your employer must do, what you must do, and who enforces it. You will be able to state both sides of the legal duty.
Learn to spot the hazards a care visit really holds: wet floors, trailing leads, hot water and drinks, sharps, and the risks recorded in the care plan.
How a risk assessment works, step by step, and your part in it: spot the hazard, report it, follow the plan. Covers the five steps and hazard versus risk.
Why every accident and near miss must be reported, how to do it well, and what happens next: the accident book, RIDDOR, CQC and a no-blame culture.
The graded assessment: ten questions drawn from a 30-question bank covering the whole course. Pass it to complete your certificate.
