Unit 11: Understand the Principles of Safeguarding Children

This unit provides learners with the knowledge required to understand safeguarding responsibilities in relation to children and young people within adult social care settings. It recognises that, although the primary focus is adult care, workers may come into contact with children and must be able to identify and respond to safeguarding concerns appropriately. Learners will explore the circumstances in which contact with children may occur, the factors that increase vulnerability, and the different types of abuse that children and young people may experience. The unit also covers how to recognise risks, respond to disclosures or concerns, and follow legal requirements, agreed ways of working, and local safeguarding procedures. By the end of the unit, learners will be able to act confidently and appropriately to protect children and young people from harm while working within their role boundaries.
