Standard 4: Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Human Rights

Discrimination in care rarely looks like hatred. It looks like a rushed morning visit where someone decides a 91-year-old "won't want to choose", or a rota that quietly clashes with a person's faith. This course gives you the words and the law behind them: what equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights mean, the nine protected characteristics, and how bias slips into good people's work without anyone meaning it to. You follow one week of visits to Dorothy and Arthur Hinchcliffe, see how assumptions, routines and a tired remark can cross the line, and practise the quiet, respectful challenge that changes behaviour instead of starting a fight. By the end you will know which laws and codes apply to your own role, how to support a person's beliefs and preferences in everyday care, and who to go to for advice. It maps directly to Care Certificate Standard 4 (March 2025).
